I might of spent more time setting up my blog than on my first entry. I couldn’t help it, had to make sure all the typography was right. For some reason all the text was centering, I discovered while when looking at the code and addressed that so every thing is now neatly left aligned!
Naturally I find it easier to talk about design issues that I’ve had more experience in. Such as the relationship between design and tech (I almost selected that as my research topic). I received a copy of Adobe Photoshop for my 14 birthday and I have now been using it for 12 years. In my previous job I learnt to code which has also expanded my knowledge between the gritty background works of web design. In first year I found out there was such a thing as coding knitters, who program the machines to churn out designs. This is something id love to explore.
The topic of ‘Australian design’ and what it means to be an Australian designer doesn’t interest me as much. I’ve always been a computer and online kid. Especially by country standards. So I’ve been introduced to a wide range of artists across the world from a young age. I’ve never really felt this need to prove or establish myself as an Aussie designer. Maybe this is something that will change?
In terms of the research paper I have much to do. After I’ve handing in my first studio assignment (next week) I’ll be scheduling in regular days of writing. Yavi has a good way of doing it. Write 200 words a week minimum. So I’ll aim for that. Playing catch up in studio has consumed so much of my time that this class has sadly been neglected. However I am happy with my abstract and direction so far (not received /read feedback on it). So I’m not concerned at this stage that it’ll end up a pile of mess. I think catching up on 72 hrs of missed class work proves I can manage my time and still have time for wine.
