I’d like to you think about some of the common assumptions you might have about what your work is, and how people would view it (versus what people actually say about it)
I honestly don’t know what to write for this answer. People sometimes think my Digital work is made magically by the computer. But most of the time they don’t even know its done on the computer. Then they are impressed. As soon as they realise its digital their view of it changes. I rather not annotate my work or tell them how its done, and let the viewer try and work it out. or keep their original views that it was made with traditional mediums there fore a more “skilful” work of art.
Write about how this made you feel about your work – better? worse? Why?
I felt fine looking back at my old work, save for the linen house project. That collection just never came together. I would love to re do that project 100% digitally (but still be reactive dyed printed (rotary)) but unfortunately very limited digital options were open to me. My final paint up for that project took 55 hours (yes i counted them all) 55 hours digitally could produce the most resolved collection I’ve ever worked on. But i couldn’t allocate that time to it. As it was spent bloody mixing gouache and painting.
Lol people say i use pink and teal a-lot. That is true. For my final collection im trying to develop a colour palette thats uniquely Australian which will be a first for me. Working with burnt reds, silver blues and dark emeralds. I think this collection will really stand out against my other work and help diversify my work.
I want to change my kids assignment to linen, BUT i still think it works strongly as kids wear and i don’t want to two linen projects in my portfolio. The ‘My local” assignment i think is better suited to homewares. Linen house could also go to homewares but i just don’t have the time to rework this on top of getting design work for the gradshow done. This week they want me to do some logo designs which will easy take the 6-8 hours of LDH for the week (to produce three logos.)
My folio will also include my graphic design work. for this assessment i’ll only include 2-3 three projects as converting digital web design work to print is VERY hard. Everything is designed at 72 DPI at about 1000px wide. to change that into a resolution suitable for print is a major task, as is collecting all the aspects used in the project. The mobile view, the desktop, and iPad view, the icons, buttons and styling all of it needs to be updated to a print resolution and then moved into a simulated graphic (iPhone or iMac ect). Basically its a huge amount of work that ive undertaken in the past. Which i need to redo as the graphics i put my designs in are out dated now (phone 5;’s).
